Watch the full conversation:
"I've been in the mental health space for quite some time. So there has been this opportunity as well, for real conversations. But I've seen a vast difference between how businesses and countries are even tackling the topic. The problem was there already. It will only get worst with the rise of burnout as well, based on this, like blending of work and home and all the rest of it."
Petra Valzeboer
About Petra
Petra grew up in communes in countries such as Brazil, India, Kenya and Russia. She moved to London where her life was drastically different to her time in the communes. Petra struggled to adapt, her life descended into depression and increased alcohol addiction. Petra turned her life around, went to night school and got her masters degree while working full-time and raising two children. She has now quit drinking and is the CEO of PBLtd and works tirelessly to provide help to businesses with mental health support for their teams.
A few highlights from the conversation:
- We talk about stress and the stacking of things. Burnout is the stacking of stress that isn't released over time. Things stack in general, this is not an immediate thing, it happens over time. We have to be able to reflect, be self aware, self critical in a useful way.
- We discuss signs of stress and that "It's okay not to be okay."
- We explore the reasons that people burnout.... and what workplaces are doing to minimise the risk of burnout.
- We highlight the impact of psychological safety in the workplace and the importance of a culture that acknowledges the topic of mental health and supports their people.
